2. Overview

FollowRay is an independent iOS app that imports and locally analyzes the official Instagram data export in JSON format. The app has no user account, no login and no own server. There is no login to Instagram within the app.

FollowRay does not connect to its own servers and does not make API calls to Instagram, Meta or other services. Processing takes place exclusively on your device.

3. Data processed by FollowRay

When you import your Instagram data export, FollowRay may process the following information exclusively locally on your device:

• follower and following lists from the official Instagram data export;
• locally calculated results, including comparisons and detected unfollowers;
• whitelist entries created by you;
• app settings, including notification and reminder settings;
• local history data, where stored by you in the app.

This data is stored only in the app’s Application Support directory and UserDefaults on your device. It is not transmitted to FollowRay, the controller, Instagram, Meta or any other third party.

4. App permissions and device functions

4.1 Local notifications

FollowRay may request permission for local notifications, for example for an unfollower alert after an import or import reminders on a weekly, biweekly or monthly schedule. Notifications are scheduled exclusively on your device. There is no push server and no backend for Apple push notifications.

4.2 File selection

The system file picker may be used so that you can select the ZIP file downloaded through Instagram’s official export function. FollowRay accesses only the file you explicitly select and uses it solely for the import.

4.3 Opening Instagram

When you use the unfollow action, FollowRay may open the relevant profile in the official Instagram app using the instagram:// URL scheme. FollowRay does not transmit data to itself or to third parties; the Instagram app then handles the action under its own privacy policy.

5. No disclosure, tracking or analytics

FollowRay does not sell, rent or disclose data to third parties. The app contains no tracking, analytics or telemetry, advertising or third-party SDKs. It uses UserDefaults only for its own app settings and not for tracking.

6. Storage period and deletion

Data remains stored locally on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. In FollowRay settings, the “Delete all data” function permanently and immediately removes all data stored by the app, including history, whitelist entries and settings.

Because FollowRay does not store data on its own servers, there are no additional account records for us to delete. Any separate copy of the original Instagram export, such as a copy in the Files app or a backup, must be deleted separately.

7. Your rights under the GDPR

Subject to the applicable legal requirements, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.

Because FollowRay does not transmit personal data to us or to a server, we cannot access locally stored app data. You can delete that data yourself at any time using “Delete all data”. For privacy questions, contact us at support@followray.stelonic.net.

8. Independence from Instagram and Meta

FollowRay is an unofficial, independent app and is not affiliated with Instagram or Meta Platforms, Inc. Instagram and Meta are neither the operator nor the provider of FollowRay. The Instagram data used in the app comes solely from the official export requested by you. Instagram’s and Meta’s own privacy policies apply to their services.

9. Changes to this privacy policy

This privacy policy may be updated if the app, its functions or the legal requirements change. The current version is published on this page.
